Twyla Mae Vargas, Caymanian artisan and writer of children stories such as "Tell Me More" and "Tempest in a Teapot" stories from Granny’s Back Yard, has spent most of her life at home in the Cayman Islands. She hails from a family which has much experience in Carpentry and artisan work.
In 2003 Twyla was recognized in the People’s choice award at the National Gallery for her hand made chair of Logwood.
Twyla remains conscious of the value of old ways and
customs of "Back Then", having a keen interest in art for more than 20 years, and mostly sells one of a kind pieces, which can be seen at her humble but artistic home in Bodden Town.
You can listen to her stories on Radio Cayman on Saturday mornings at 9 am; see her works of art at the Cayman Islands Museum or at 36 Daffodil Street, Bodden Town.
